Cassandra “Casey” Lynne Puett, 34, of Sheridan, died at her home on Saturday, January 12, 2019 of natural causes.  Casey was born on Valentine’s Day, 1984 and was adopted by her parents, Bruce and Barbara Puett on Christmas Eve, 1985.  Casey’s loving spirit and grateful heart embraced her adoptive parents.  Casey shared with others that she was so proud to be adopted.  She attended Sheridan schools, graduating from Sheridan High School in 2002.

Casey loved all animals (except sharks!), Supernatural TV show, musical groups the Backstreet Boys, Steam Powered Giraffe, 22 Pilots, and many others. She attended several Supernatural Conventions where she met the show’s cast and made many friends who now are part of her Facebook family.  Casey would travel by bus or plane by herself to these conventions held in San Francisco, Chicago and Denver.  There were times she would meet up with friends she had met at an earlier convention, and she always had a good time.

In 2017, Casey discovered the group Steam Powered Giraffe.  In early 2018, she flew to San Diego and took an Uber to the town of Escondido, home base for the band and where it was holding its 10th Anniversary concert.  When she returned, Casey told everyone she had a fantastic time meeting the band members and fans like herself.  She was so taken with Steam Powered Giraffe, she talked her mom into going to the band’s concert in Denver with her in June.  So, they drove to Westminster, planning on taking an Uber into Denver proper for the concert.  Arriving the night before, they got lost after dinner.  Casey suggested calling for an Uber, which was done.  She rode with the Uber driver and mom followed them back to the motel!

Casey worked at Perkin’s Restaurant as a dishwasher for a short time.  From there, she went to work for Safeway/Ridley’s Grocery Store as a customer service worker.  She worked there for six years before finding work she could be passionate about at the Sheridan Dog and Cat Shelter.  Casey had worked in both the dog and cat units, but she had settled in to the cat unit so she could take over the task of ordering medical, cleaning and basic supplies for the shelter.  The title of Inventory Control Manager was created just for her.  Casey loved her job and was very committed to the animals and staff she worked with.  Shelter staff treat every animal as an individual and that was surely the case with Casey and Patty.  Patty was a cat who arrived at the shelter very scared and with no fur on her tail.  Casey made it her job to care for “Patty Cake” and help her overcome her fear and anxiety.  With Casey’s love and knowledge of stress and anxiety disorders, Patty Cake was able to get past her stress and anxiety and find other things that are more fun than pulling her fur out, like playing with toys.  Patty now has a beautiful, full black tail and is enjoying her life as a shelter/office cat.

Casey was very protective of the animals in her care and was always on top of the animal’s needs.  She provided great customer service and was always helpful.  She loved making the match between the animals and adoptive pet – parents.  Casey was greatly loved and will be missed by her staff family.

She was preceded in death by her father, Bruce; uncle, Robert Puett; and her grandparents.  Casey is survived by her mother, Barbara Puett of Sheridan; honorary brother, Francis Howard of Shelton, NE; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 22, 2019 at Bethesda Worship Center with Pastor Scott Lee officiating.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Dog and Cat Shelter, 84 E. Ridge Rd., Sheridan, WY  82801.  Online condolences may be written at www.championfh.com.  Arrangements are under the direction of Champion Funeral Home.
