Sally C. Wagner, 77, of Banner, Wyoming died Saturday, August 25, 2018, in Billings Clinic.
Sally was born August 4, 1941, in Upland, California to Clarence and Ruth (Thompson) Chapman. She lived in Mt Baldy, California, with her parents and sister (Sandi) until age 5 when they moved to Whittier, California. She graduated from Whittier High School in 1959. After attending UC Davis for 1 year, she transferred to Cal Poly University in San Luis Obispo, California. During her time at Cal Poly, she traveled to multiple states showing livestock and competing on the university’s livestock judging team. Upon earning a bachelor’s degree in Animal Science, Sally moved to Laramie, Wyoming, to work at the University of Wyoming. While there, she completed bachelor’s degrees in Biology and Secondary Education and enjoyed showing her favorite horse, Mona.
In Laramie, she fell in love with Jim Wagner, and they married on August 24, 1968. They lived in Cheyenne until 1978 when they moved to Banner and started a cattle and horse ranch. Sally later convinced Jim to allow sheep on the ranch, and they raised 4-H lambs for many years.
Sally truly lived life to the fullest with simple pleasures: quilting, sewing, gardening, visiting with her family, neighbors and friends, the beauty of the Big Horn Mountains, adoring her grandchildren, and living on the ranch where she and Jim raised their two beloved boys.
Although Sally left us unexpectedly, her grace, selflessness, and humble elegance will always live on in our hearts.
Sally was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.
Sally is survived by her sons Todd (Dana) Wagner of Sheridan and Cody (Holly) Wagner of St. Paul, Indiana; sister Sandi Reis of Folsom, California; and grandchildren Madi, Riley, Blaine and Jessa.
Per Sally’s wishes, a private family service will be held at a later date.
In remembrance of Sally, memorials can be made to CHAPS Equine Assisted Therapy, 501 US Highway 14 East, Sheridan, WY 82801.
