Funeral services for Myrtis Maxine Robbins, 97 year old Buffalo woman who passed away October 8, 2016 at Amie Holt Care Center, will be held Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. from the Summit Wesleyan Church with Pastor William Dunlap officiating. Visitation will be from the Harness Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. A private family interment will be held at a later date at Willow Grove Cemetery next to her son, Richard. Donations in Myrtis’ memory may be made to the Myrtis Robbins Memorial, a memorial fund to honor the Amie Holt Care Center Nurses Aids, who lovingly cared for Myrtis until she passed. Myrtis Maxine Strasburg was born on June 24, 1919 in Faulkton, South Dakota to Ferdnand and Beatrice (Runnels) Strasburg. She grew up on the family farm and received her education in Rockham, South Dakota. She married Merl Finnerty and they started a family. She loved caring for her family and keeping house. Merl and Myrtis moved from Rockham to Hardin, Montana, Deadwood, South Dakota, and Martin, South Dakota while working for the Red Owl Store chain. After moving to Buffalo, Wyoming she worked for Reimann Oil as a bookkeeper; later working for Seney’s Drug as a soda-jerk with her longtime friend Doris McMurray.
Myrtis was active in the Summit Wesleyan Church where she enjoyed singing and playing piano. She would go to the Beehive and Amie Holt to play old show tunes for the residents up until she was 94, when she gave up driving.
She grieved the loss of a late-life fiancé, Fred Martin, who was killed in a freak accident days before their wedding. She later married Wilbur Robbins, and they remained friends until his passing.
Over her life Myrtis worked as a bookkeeper, a hotel clerk, and a caregiver. She had a passion for shoes, loved to paint, and loved her flowers. Myrtis loved nothing more than an afternoon tea, her cat, soap operas, and vanilla ice cream.
She is survived by two daughters Anita Schuman and her husband Neal of Buffalo, Wyoming and Sally Miller of Buffalo, Wyoming; one son Brian Finnerty and his wife Judy of Graeagle, California; 7 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ferdnand and Beatrice Strasburg; two sons, Richard and Gary Finnerty; one brother, Marlin Strasburg; fiancé, Fred Martins; ex-husband and friend, Wilbur Robbins and ex-husband, Merl Finnerty.
