Francis Winslow, “Stoney”, Stone, 94, of Sheridan, passed away Saturday, January 20, 2018 at Memorial Hospital of Sheridan, Wyoming. He was born July 10, 1923 to Melvin and Pearl (Warner) Stone in Casper, Wyoming.
Stoney graduated from Dayton High School, Dayton, WY in 1942. After graduation he entered Air Force basic training at St. Louis, MO. Following basic, he was assigned to Kansas City, Denver, Cannon Air Force Base, Clovis, NM, Anchorage, AK, Adak, AK and Shami, AK. During WWII, Stoney was assigned to heavy bomb maintenance then transferred to the 11th Fighter Squadron. At the completion of WWII, he was placed on inactive reserve then recalled to serve during the Korean Conflict assigned to the 3rd Interceptor Fighter Squadron, Cape Cod, MA. He served in the Air Force for 30 years, retiring as a Senior Sergeant.
Stoney was married to Rose Stroup for 63 years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rose. Stoney is survived by one son, Keith of Tennessee.
