The annual collection of hazardous waste will take place this Saturday at the Johnson County Fairgrounds.

Sponsored by the Lake DeSmet Conservation District, it is an opportunity of ridding homes and ranches of a variety of chemicals and no longer useful appliances and tires.

According to Conservation District Director Zach Byram, the free collection is an ideal time to rid your place of unwanted and potentially dangerous items…

Leftover pesticides, herbicides, insecticides, along with used oils and batteries are all eligible for disposal.

Byram indicated that liquids are a popular item on the annual collection day…

Metal scraps, large appliances and air conditioners without Freon can also be disposed of at the fairgrounds on Saturday from 9 in the morning until 3 in the afternoon.
