SHERIDAN, WY— The Sheridan City Council will consider a three-week extension of the main street reconfiguration test, as well as a permanent configuration change sooner than planned.
According to the agenda for Council’s regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday night, the test, which has been active since August 12th, was scheduled to conclude on September 8th.
Throughout the test, city and WYDOT staff have been actively collecting data from traffic counts, survey responses, and public comments.
According to the city, preliminary results have been well-received by the majority of the commenting public. A total of 789 responses to the online survey were submitted as of this story, 62% of which felt positive about the new configuration, with 29% feeling negative and 9% responding neutrally.
The city will consider extending the test for an additional three weeks so that the gathering of data can continue.
According to the city, once the test concludes, since the existing striping of the old configuration is worn, and there has been a positive response from the public, the city is considering replacing the striping with the three-lane configuration permanently, to perform a more “long-term” test, until the planned construction in 2023.
Tonight’s city council meeting will be held at city hall in council chambers at 7 pm. The public is welcomed and encouraged to attend and voice their opinions.
