Today our local governments are in action with regular meetings of the Johnson County Commission and later the Buffalo City Council.

It’s an appropriate time to be thinking about the national census scheduled for next year.

Every 10 years as mandated by the U.S. Congress a census must be taken.

Anyone born on or before April 1st 2020 needs to be counted.

The census is important because federal funding comes to Johnson County and Buffalo in the amount of $1504 per person counted.

Here’s Buffalo Mayor Shane Schrader on the impact of the census…

If only 5 people from each county in Wyoming are undercounted that’s more than $172K lost annually and more than 1.7 million dollars lost in federal funds until the next Census in 2030.
