William Horace Porter, Sr., 89, of Sheridan, passed away Thursday, June 28, 2018 at the Sheridan VA Medical Center. A long-time resident of Sheridan, he was born in Douglas, Wyoming on August 24, 1928 to John T. and Clementine Goon Porter.

 

After attending Sheridan schools and serving in the United States Army in Japan, he attended Grinnell College and then went on to work for The First National Bank. He retired in the mid 1980’s as Vice President / Trust Officer. He thoroughly enjoyed his rose garden, took great pride in his yard and enjoyed his photography – each of which he enjoyed sharing with others.  Bill was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, numerous Masonic organizations and the Big Horn Lions Club.

 

Survivors include his sister; Mary Wyly and husband, Jim of Oaxaca, Mexico, his children; William H. Porter, Jr. and wife, Lynn of Phoenix, Arizona and Richard B. Porter and wife, Lisa of Sheridan, Wyoming; and grandson, William H. Porter, III (Trey) of Phoenix, Arizona. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Norma (31 years) and second wife, Catherine (28 years), and one brother, John.

 

The family is grateful for the care and friendships provided through the community, long-time friends and especially his compassionate caregivers.

 

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, July 5, 2018 at the First Presbyterian Church, 2121 Colonial Dr., in Sheridan, with Pastor Paul Hayden officiating.  A luncheon to follow in the Fellowship Hall. Private family inurnment will be at Sheridan Municipal Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to those organizations supported by Bill or to any of the donor’s choice.
