William T. Conrad Obituary

July 19, 1936 – July 6, 2019

William (Bill) Thomas Conrad passed away on July 6, 2019 after a two-year struggle with acute myeloid leukemia.  Bill was born in Colora, MD on July 19, 1936 to William A. and Bertha Conrad.  He was raised in a Maryland farming community and made many car trips across the country throughout his lifetime to visit family. He graduated from North East High School in 1954 and attended Goldey Beacom College in Wilmington, Delaware before embarking on a lifetime career in accounting.

Bill married the love of his life, Carole Anne Gray, in 1956.  He was employed at VA Hospitals in Maryland, South Carolina, Alabama, and Tennessee before moving to Sheridan, Wyoming in June 1974. He served as the Chief of Fiscal Service at the Sheridan VA Medical Center until his retirement in 1996.

Bill had a fascination with cars and motorcycles from an early age.  He owned 59 different cars over his lifetime and loved to travel across the country.  Baseball was his favorite sport. He pitched for North East High School, Cecil Post Junior Legion, and the Bay View community team. The St. Louis Cardinals were his favorite major league team. Other hobbies included bowling, reading, walking and all outdoor activities with his various motorized and non-motorized vehicles.  He was very involved in his grandchildren’s lives and frequently attended their volleyball, basketball, football, soccer, softball, swimming, art, music, dance, and karate activities. He rode in a 400-mile summer bicycle tour for 17 years and was accompanied by various grandchildren on many of those tours. In recent years he enjoyed riding his recumbent bicycle, motor scooter, and side-by-side vehicle.  Bill lived life to the fullest until the very end and encouraged his family to enjoy the outdoors as well.  He was a member of the First United Methodist Church for 45 years. He sang in the choir and served as treasurer of the FUMC Men’s group for many years.  He also volunteered delivering Meals on Wheels.

Bill is survived by his wife of 62 years, Carole Anne, four children, Cheryl (Chris) Bare of Deming, New Mexico; Wendy Legerski of Gillette; Andrew (Susan) Conrad of Sheridan; and Mark (Trish) Conrad of Sheridan. He had nine beloved grandchildren: Cara (Curt) Staley of Billings, MT; Katie (Adam) Evenson of Casper, WY; Tyrell Legerski of Gillette, WY; Jessica Legerski of Sheridan, WY; Alex Legerski of Casper, WY; Olivia and Julia Conrad of Sheridan, WY; and Grasyn and Jaeger Conrad of Sheridan, WY.  In the last year he took great pride in two new great-grandsons, Casen Staley and Lawson Evenson.  Bill is also survived by his sister Mabel (Albert) England of Sebring, FL.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Leonard and Melvin Conrad of Maryland, and an infant daughter.
