Vernita Joyce Clarke Gordon, passed away on September 16, 2018, at the Sheridan Manor. She came on this earth August 11, 1936, in Mishawaka, IN. Born to Donald B. Clarke and Evelyn M. (Beal) Clark. They moved to Wyoming in the summer of 1946, and lived in Big Horn County in various places. She graduated from Manderson Hyattville High School in 1955, later marrying Tommy Gordon in Worland, WY on April 11, 1958. They lived in Worland for a while and moved around some in Wyoming, but in 1966, they moved to Renton, WA. And while there Vernita worked for Boeing for a few years and finally in 1974, they decided to return to Sheridan, WY. But after Tommy passed away Vernita went to college and got an Associates Degree in Nursing from Sheridan College and started working at Sheridan Manor, where she worked for 10 1/2 years.
Vernita was a member of Grace Baptist Church and DAR, in which she held several offices. She was an avid genealogist and loved crocheting, knitting, making cards, poetry, cake decorating, and almost all crafts.
She us survived by her brothers, Duane Clarke of Grovetown, GA, Joe (Carol) Clarke of Wright, WY, Larry (Jo) Clarke of Gresham, OR, sister, Donna Anna of Greybull, WY, two stepdaughters, Susan Loebs of Osage, WY, Lynda (Gordon) Ballieu of Sundance, WY, several nephews, nieces, cousins and step children. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister in law, Miyo Clarke, stepson Tommy Gordon, step daughters, Nance Black of Rawlins, WY, Gayle Williams and two great grandsons.
Services will be held at 2:00 pm with a visitation prior to the service on Thursday, September 20, 2018, at Grace Baptist Church with Pastor Stephen Anderson officiating. Burial will follow in the Sheridan Municipal Cemetery.
