At their final regularly scheduled meeting of 2018 on Monday night, the Sheridan City Council voted to award the Northern Wyoming Community College District (NWCCD) with the $250,000 in one-cent funds in order to fund additional instructors for their Machine Tool Program at Sheridan College.

The college is seeking to add the additional instructors in order to provide more “part time” classes for non-traditional students, or adults who are looking to obtain a certificate in one of the programs. The additional courses would help boost the light manufacturing economy in Sheridan by providing training for many additional workers who are already living in the area and want to enter the city’s up-and-coming manufacturing industry.

The City Council voted 3 to 2 in favor of the resolution. Mayor Roger Miller and Counselor Thayer Shafer voted against the matter as they would have preferred to wait for the oncoming council to vote on it in the new year.

The resolution passed with the stipulation that if funding became available from another source, the city would no longer be responsible for providing the funding.
