Ruth Anne Benson passed away September 30, 2018 in Sheridan, Wyoming.
Born Ruth Anne Popple, June 17, 1926 to W. G. and Edith Popple in Hermon, New York.
Ruth attended nursing school in New York and put that degree to work at Sloan Kettering Cancer Center until meeting her husband, Atley Marious “Ben” Benson Jr. Ruth and Ben met at a party and drank coffee in the kitchen as their only date and were married April 19, 1949. They started a family and had four children Michelle C, Will A, Paul J and Lynn E in New York until they moved to Florida in 1956. The Benson’s resided in Tampa until Ben passed away in 2009. Ruth loved the wind in her hair, boating and especially Ben. When Ruth moved to Wyoming, she loved reminiscing about her youth in New York with the cold air in her lungs and the fall colors. She also loved to sing, listen to music and have a glass of wine or a margarita with food and family. Ruth was a firecracker and was always complimentary and gracious to her caregivers, though she also was good at keeping everyone on their toes wondering what humor may come from her next.
Ruth was preceded in death by her brother William (Helen) Popple, husband Atley “Ben” Benson and son Will (Cleo) Benson. She is survived by daughter Michelle (Matt) Reeves, son Paul (Linda) Benson, daughter Lynn Reeves, grandchildren Thomas, Brian, Kelly, Anthony, John, Shelley, Maria and Ashley, great-grandchildren Tela , Atley, Rhianon, Dillon and Grant as well as countless extended family members.
A private family funeral in Florida will occur at a later date.
