Longtime Sheridan resident, Peter C. Carroll, 75, died Tuesday morning surrounded by his family.
Born in New Ulm, Minnesota to Dr. Robert A. and Florence (Robertson) Carroll, Pete attended Sheridan schools, graduating from high school in 1961 and went on to attend Sheridan College and the University of Wyoming. He served as a Naval Aviator from 1965 to 1970, completing two tours in Vietnam.
Returning to Sheridan in 1970, Pete married Elva K. Newcomer, and the couple made their home here. He worked for many years at First Federal Savings & Loan, followed by sixteen years of service as Sheridan County Treasurer, retiring January 6, 2019.
Pete enjoyed anything outdoors, fishing, hunting, skiing, golfing; and he loved his Wyoming Cowboys (Go Pokes!). He was a longtime member of the Cowboy Joe Club and served on the board of directors. His family, friends, the Sheridan community, and the Bighorn Mountains were at the center of his world.
He was preceded in death by his parents, as well as two sisters, Jill and Jean. Pete is survived by his wife Elva; brother Mike (Shelley); children Bret (Betsy), Boyd (Selena), and Stacy (Josh); granddaughters Emmy Carroll, Milla Carroll, and Fiona Coonfield. He is also survived by sister-in-laws Sandra Solberg and Linda Morris, as well as nephews Travis (Brenda) Morris, Geoff (Brenda) Solberg, and Spencer Morris.
A service with military honors is planned for 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at the First Congregational Church, UCC. A reception will follow at 4:00 p.m. at the Best Western Sheridan Center in the Snow Goose Room.
