Providing an engaging student experience is key to increasing the graduation rate at Buffalo High School.

That was what Mike Hansen told members of the Kiwanis Club of Buffalo on Monday…

Hansen, a teacher at New West, was accompanied by Joe Burtenshaw, a student at the alternative school housed at Bomber Mountain Civic Center.

Hansen and fellow teacher Tara Hall instruct 25 students in Johnson County School District’s effort to revive the alternative learning environment that existed prior to the high school’s construction at its present location south of town.

The center is the current home of the school, but there are tentative plans for relocation pending the state’s approval of New West as a separate school from BHS with its’ own budget.
