Naomi Jean Taylor, 82, of Sheridan, passed away Friday, July 21, 2017 at her home.  She was born April 10, 1935 to Everett and Emily Allen in Gillette, WY.  Naomi was raised in Sheridan, WY and graduated from Sheridan High School.

She married Fred Taylor in June of 1972.  Naomi was an avid bowler and had multiple trophies to prove her prowess.  She held several jobs until the early 1970’s and then settled into a position at the V.A. Hospital in Sheridan.  Naomi worked as an aide on the medical unit until she retired to be with her husband, Fred until his death in 1996.

Naomi attended classes at Sheridan College to get her Certified Nursing Assistant credentials.  She then went back to work at Emeritus at Sugarland Ridge, an adult assisted living facility in Sheridan.  Naomi retired again in 2007 due to her own health issues.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Taylor, parents, Everett and Emily Allen of Sheridan; sister and brother-in-law, A. Nadine and Leslie Matteson, and niece, Verline Jean Matteson who died in infancy all of Buffalo, and a nephew, Michael Matteson of Gillette. Naomi is survived by her nephew, Everett Matteson and a niece, Terrill Matteson both of Sheridan; three great nieces, Erin (Nathan) Matte, Krista Matteson and Brittany Matteson all of Gillette; five great nephews, Brendan Matteson of Gillette, Stephen Matteson of Billings, James (Jaime) Galloway, Kenneth Matteson, and Ryan (Liberty) Matteson all of Sheridan; three great great nieces and four great great nephews, all of whom loved Naomi.  Her family will always remember the many Christmas’s in the “Badger Hole,” a special family room in Fred and Naomi’s basement.

Naomi passed away peacefully in her home under the watchful care of her great nephew, Kenneth Matteson whom had been her caregiver for the past five years.  Hospice of the Big Horns was also, a blessing in Naomi’s final weeks.

A Graveside service for Naomi will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at the Elks Cemetery in Sheridan for close friends and family with Pastor Doug Goodwin officiating.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of the Big Horns, PO Box 391, Sheridan, WY  82801 or the Sheridan Senior Center, 211 Smith St., Sheridan, WY  82801.
