They’ve been competitors since their freshman year, or earlier, and their hard work has not only paid off again, it’s put them at the top of the graduating class of 2017.

Logan Harris of Torrington and Anna Gibson of Jackson were named the boys and girls winner of the 2017 Milward-Simpson award.
The award is named after Milward Simpson who was the team captain for the University of Wyoming football, basketball and baseball teams, and earned varsity letters in each sport from 1917-1921.

He later served as Wyoming Governor from 1954-58 and as a U.S. Senator from 1962-67.

It is given out to the best overall high school athlete of each graduating class.

2017 is the 42nd year for the award.

 

 

Logan Harris:

Harris is the first TrailBlazer boy to win the award.

He earned 3 all-conference and 7 all-state awards while competing in football, indoor track and field and outdoor track and field (competed with Cheyenne Central for indoor track). He is a 2-time indoor track shot put champ and set a new Wyoming Indoor record with a throw of 61′ 2″. A 2-time state runner up in outdoor track and field in the discus event, and is the 2017 outdoor track and field state champ in the shot put, setting a new overall state record with a throw of 63′ 8.5″, breaking John Godina’s record set in 1989. He will attend the University of Wyoming on a football scholarship.

 

 

Anna Gibson:

Gibson is the first Lady Bronc to win the award.

She earned 12 all-state awards while competing in cross-country, nordic skiing and outdoor track and field. In cross-country she won the 3A State Championship in 2013, and the 4A State Championship in 2016, while setting a new 4A record with a time of 17:35.20, and is a 2-time Wyoming Gatorade Runner of the Year. She placed 4th at the 2016 Nike National Cross-Country Meet. In nordic skiing she won 6 state titles, and placed 3rd and 6th at the US Junior Nationals. In outdoor track and field, she won 7 state titles, and set a new overall record in the 1600 meter run in her senior season, with a time of 4:48.41. She will attend Brown University on an academic Scholarship and will compete in Cross Country, Indoor Track and Field, and Outdoor Track and Field.
