Mertie C. Quist, 95, of Sheridan returned to the arms of the Lord on November 10, 2018. She died peacefully, in the embrace of her family, at Sheridan Memorial Hospital.

Mertie was born in Upton, Wyoming on November 24, 1922 to Elmer M. and Mary (Mae) Cleveland. Her family moved to Casper where she would meet her future husband, Harold Quist. They both graduated from Natrona County High School in 1940 and later attended the University of Wyoming. Mertie and Harold were married on June 2, 1948 at the First United Methodist Church in Casper.

Mertie worked as an office manager at Ohio Oil, Electric Service, and Studer, Inc. in Casper. After retiring, she kept busy volunteering at Wyoming Medical Center and Methodist Thrift Shop, practicing yoga, reading, visiting yard sales, collecting antiques, playing bridge, crocheting and cross-stitching. In her later years, she took great joy in exercising at the YMCA with a special group of friends.

In 2010, after living in Casper for 60 years where they raised three children, Mertie and Harold moved to Sheridan to be closer to family. They took up residence at Sugarland Ridge in 2016. They enjoyed their time there and had a special fondness for many of the residents and staff. Bible study and crafts were Mertie’s favorite activities.

Mertie was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 70 years, her parents, a sister, and a son (Steve). She is survived by two children, Linda (Ron) Pulse of Cheyenne, and Hal (Pat) Quist of Sheridan, six grandchildren, Ronda Pulse (Andy) Cockle of Portland OR, Rachelle (Matt) Proctor of Colorado Springs, Adam (Karlynn) Quist of Cheyenne, Jeremy Quist of Sheridan, Laura (Clay) Gregersen of Billings, Grant (Levia) Pulse of Nashville, and four great-grandchildren.

A private family service will be held at a later date to spread Mertie’s ashes in the Bighorn Mountains with those of her beloved husband and son.
