Funeral Services for Mary Lou Schoonover, 88 year old Buffalo resident who passed away suddenly Tuesday, at her home in Buffalo, will be held Friday, May 24th at 11:00 a.m. from the Harness Funeral Home Chapel in Buffalo with Joe Lansidel officiating. A gathering will follow at the American Legion Hall Post #13 in Buffalo. Donations in Mary Lou’s memory may be made to the Buffalo Senior Center in care of the Harness Funeral Home at 351 N. Mary Louise Schoonover was born on January 18, 1931 in Torrington, Wyoming to Ralph and Mary Belding. She grew up and went to school in Sheridan, Wyoming and graduated from Sheridan High School with the class of 1949. After high school Mary Lou attended medical technology school in St. Louis, Missouri. She then moved to Buffalo, Wyoming and began working as a Medical Technologist at the Johnson County Memorial Hospital. It was there that she met her future husband Ray Schoonover. Mary and Ray were married March 13th, 1954 at the Union Congregational Church in Buffalo. They made their home in Buffalo where they raised their three children. Ray passed away in 1997 and Mary Lou continued to live in Buffalo until her death.
Mary Lou loved animals, and at the time of her death she had two golden retrievers that were her loving companions. As a child she enjoyed her horse, Cindy, and her colt named Scout. She also had a passion for gardening and flowers. She was a member of the Buffalo Homemakers Club and Beta Sigma Phi. Mary always looked for the good in people and loved her family unconditionally.
She is survived by one daughter, Carolyn Schoonover of Lakewood, Colorado; one son Larry Schoonover of Buffalo; two brothers Charles Belding and his wife Margaret of Buffalo and Tom Belding and his wife Jeannie of Port Ludlow, Washington; one sister Sara Carey and her husband Bill of Phoenix, Arizona; sister-in-law, Addie Cook of Clearmont; grandson, Jacob Schoonover and his wife Monica; two great grandsons, Kenai and Brandt Schoonover; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her husband Ray and her son David Schoonover.
