Mary Combs Hanlin went to Savior in Heaven on Saturday, September 15, 2018, at the Westview Health Care Center. She was born March 20, 1938, to Roy and Muriel Combs in Douglas, Wyoming. She grew up in Douglas and spent her summer months on her parents’ ranch in the Labonte Canyon area south of Douglas. She enjoyed walking in the mountains, searching for arrowheads, riding with her dad and brother, Lee, herding cow and sheep and helping her mom prepare meals for the ranch hands.

Mary graduated from Douglas High School in 1957. After graduation, she worked at various secretarial positions. But she would often say that all she really wanted to do in life is get married and have a family. On August 16, 1961, Mary married the love of her life Dave Hanlin. From this union, they were blessed with two beautiful children, Steve and Lisa.

While raising her family, Mary worked part time at the Children Center in Sheridan. She found great joy working with all the children, especially in the 2 year old room.

Mary was a people person. She could learn more about a person in 5 minutes than most people would in a month. She was sincerely interested in other people’s stories and asked many questions. She cherished her all of her special friendships, many of which she met through the United Methodist Church in Sheridan.

Mary’s greatest joy came from her family, especially her 4 grandchildren. She always wanted to know about all the activities they were involved in. She would keep any articles or papers or pictures they sent her in her Keep Forever Box.

We are very thankful for the many people who took the time to come and visit with Mary at home after she was no longer physically able to participate in out of the home activities. She truly enjoyed your company.

Mary is proceeded in death by both her parents, her brother and sister in law, Lee and Pat Combs, her niece Mary Best, special aunt Donna Allison and brother-in-law Jim Hanlin. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Dave Hanlin, her son Steve Hanlin (Mary Beth) and daughter Lisa Schied (Syl), her 4 grandchildren Sean Hanlin, Kevin Hanlin, Audrey Schied and Cleo Schied, sister-in-law, Sharon Hanlin, nephews, Todd Hanlin (Jennifer), Brett Hanlin (Renee) and John Combs (Katy) and her niece Tracey Hanlin, as well as numerous cousins and great nieces and nephews.

Services will be held on Friday, September 22, 2018, at 10 a.m. at The First United Methodist Church. A lunch reception will follow.

In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to The First United Methodist Church in Sheridan, 215 W. Works St., Sheridan, WY 82801, The Hub, 211 Smith St., Sheridan, WY 82801 or The Montana Rescue Mission, 2510 1st Ave. N., Billings, MT 59101.
