A celebration of life for Joe Silbernagel Jr, 81-year-old Buffalo resident who passed away at home Wednesday evening will be held at a later date by his family.
Donations in Joe’s memory may be made to the City of Buffalo Volunteer Fire Department in care of the Harness Funeral Home at 351 N. Adams in Buffalo.

Joseph Silbernagel Jr. was born February 27, 1937, in Selfridge, North Dakota, to Joseph and Magdalena (Kuntz) Silbernagel. He grew up the eighth of eleven children on his family’s farm in North Dakota. He graduated in 1956 from the Catholic School and went to work doing construction before he joined the US Army in 1961. He was stationed in Hawaii operating heavy equipment. Following his discharge in 1963 he went to work in Belle Fourche, South Dakota for a bentonite plant. There he met Patsy Craft and they were married June 19, 1965. After the birth of their first son, Randy, Joe attended meat cutting school in Toledo, Ohio. He then went to work as a butcher for Safeway in Sidney, Montana. He was promoted to butcher Manager at Safeway in Buffalo, Wyoming in 1967. Their second son, Kevin, was born before Joe went to work for Reeve’s Concrete; where he worked until he retired as job superintendent after thirty years. He continued to make his home in Buffalo until the time of his death. He kept busy gardening and doing various carpentry and construction projects for friends and neighbors.
Joe is survived by his wife Patsy Silbernagel; one son Kevin and his wife, Julie; two grandsons, Tyler Hakert and Walker Silbernagel, all of Buffalo; one brother, Pius Silbernagel and his wife Elaine of Billings, Montana; and three sisters, Helen Johner of Beulah, North Dakota, Agnes Volk of Mobridge, South Dakota; and Rosemary Schmidt of Boise, Idaho. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, one sister, and one son, Randy Silbernagel.
