John Philip Gable, 85, of Sheridan, passed away Friday, January 18, 2019 at his home.  He was born June 26, 1933 in York, Pennsylvania to Paul and Mary (Dietz) Gable.

John graduated from Dallastown High School in 1951.  He graduated from
Penn State University in 1955 with a Civil Engineering degree.  While at Penn State, he also participated in the R.O.T.C.  Afterwards, John was commissioned in the U.S. Army and assigned to the 8th Infantry Division, 12th Engineer Battalion.

He married Peggy Ann Mood on July 16, 1955 in York, Pennsylvania.  In 1960, John resigned his commission to work for Peter Kiewit Sons in Niagara Falls, New York.  He continued working for Kiewit in Omaha, Nebraska, Hudson’s Hope, B.C., Canada, and finally Decker, Montana, where he became mine manager and retired in 1985.

God blessed Peggy and John with the opportunity to travel around the world. John especially enjoyed their family cabin in the Big Horn Mountains, as well as hunting, four- wheeling, and snowmachining.

John was preceded in death by his parents.  He is survived by his wife, Peggy Ann Gable; daughters: Elizabeth (Mark) Hepworth of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Janice (John) Fleming of Damon, Texas; son: Wayne (Pamela) Gable of Sheridan, Wyoming; eight grandchildren: Neil Hepworth, Daniel Hepworth, Rachael Simmerman, Ian Fleming, Eric Fleming, Luke Fleming, Andrea Johnson and Adam Gable; seven great grandchildren: Claire Gable, Ty Gable, Dally Johnson, Emmi Johnson, Alton Hepworth, Thomas Hepworth, and Jordan Simmerman.

A funeral service including military honors will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 26, 2019 at Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Phil Wold officiating.  A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.  A luncheon in the church fellowship hall will immediately follow the service.  Private family inurnment will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, 135 Crescent Dr., Sheridan, WY  82801 or the Y.M.C.A., 417 N.
