John J. Sykes, 76, passed away on Tuesday, September 18, 2018 in Dayton, WY. He was born on September 21, 1941 in Detroit, MI to Edward W. and Antonina (Visnorovitz) Sykes. He was raised in New England by his mother and grandmother. At 17 he joined the U.S. Air Force where he was educated to become a meteorologist. In 1979 he retired after 20 years of service. John was last stationed in Great Falls, Mont., where he lived for over 25 years with his family. In 2002, he moved to Wyoming to be with old friends.
John was preceded in death by his parents and stepfather, Jacob Hurwitz. He is survived by his wife, Chieko; daughters, Christina Sykes and Katherine (Mike) Kuffel; granddaughter, Jenna; and half brothers, Kenneth and Thomas Sykes.
Private internment will take place at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, Wash.
