Inez Martha Board, 95, passed away Saturday, May 4, surrounded by her family at Green House Living. She was the mother of Mike Board. Inez was born January 9, 1924 in a farmhouse near Garfield, Kentucky to Cliff and Myrtle Gray. Inez was educated in a one-room schoolhouse. Although her formal education ended at the eighth grade, her reading and math skills were excellent and served her well throughout her life.
On December 30, 1944 she married Hollis Board and soon thereafter moved to Louisville, forsaking rural life for the big city. Inez’s life as a stay at home mom began July 11, 1951 when she gave birth to their only child, Mike.
During those years raising Mike, Inez filled her life with bowling, and working as a volunteer for various fundraising campaigns in the Louisville area. She was an avid exerciser and walker until sidelined with back problems in her later years. Inez was a true party girl at heart. Enjoying a wide circle of friends, she loved to dress up and go dancing nearly every weekend with Hollis. Throughout their years of socializing, Inez’s best friend was her younger sister, Teddi Young. Together they spent many years shopping, having weekly salon and lunch dates. She enjoyed summer vacations that were almost always taken to a beach resort in Florida.
As a life-long independent and strong willed woman, Inez remained in her home until 2011. A stroke forced her to realize she could no longer live on her own. Mike moved Inez from Louisville to Sheridan where she resided at another nursing home until she became a beloved elder at Scott Cottage in June 2012, where she was cherished and cared for by the staff.
Inez is preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Frank, and her husband. She is survived by her son Mike (Susan) of Sheridan, her sister Teddi Young of Louisville. Three grandchildren, Whitney Polecastro, Lauren and Connor Board all of Bozeman, Montana, and her niece and several nephews.
A local service is not planned; however, Champion Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements. Inez will be interred in the family plot at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Irvington, KY at a later date.
