George R. Gligorea, 90, of Sheridan, passed away on Thursday, November 15, 2018, in Sheridan, WY. He was born in Sheridan on August 23, 1928, to George N. “Joe” and Anna L. Gligorea of Big Horn, WY. He attended Sheridan High School and served in the United States Navy upon graduation. After his military service, he graduated from the University of Wyoming. He and his wife, Phoebe, were married in 1951.
George served as the president and chairman of the board of First Federal Savings Bank, as a board member of the Federal Home Loan Bank of Seattle, and was a member of the Federal Reserve Bank Thrift Advisory Committee. His numerous community activities include the Whitney Foundatin Board, School District #2 School Board, Sheridan College Foundation Board, the Watt Foundation Board, and the Fulmer Library Board.
His wife Phoebe, his sons and their families, Robert M. Gligorea of Napa, CA, Steven and Ruth Gligorea of Las Vegas, NV, Thomas and Mary Gligorea of Sheridan, WY, grandson David A Gligorea of Grand Junction, CO, and his brothers Gene Gligorea and Thomas J. Gligorea survive him. His parents and grandson, Thomas George Gligorea, preceded him in death.
At George’s request, no services will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to Hospice of the Big Horns c/o The Foundation at Sheridan Memorial Hospital, P.O. Box 391, Sheridan, WY 82801.
