On January 23, 2019, a fatal crash occurred at milepost 101 on Wyoming 59 south of Gillette, Wyoming. Around 5:33 p.m., Wyoming Highway Patrol troopers were dispatched to the area for a three-vehicle collision.

A 2008 Ford Super Duty was traveling northbound on WY 59 when the vehicle crossed the center line and entered the southbound lane colliding head-on with a 2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser. The Ford Super Duty continued north after hitting the Chrysler and struck a southbound 2016 Freightliner Conventional.

The driver of the Chrysler PT Cruiser has been identified as 48-year-old Wright, Wyoming resident Joseph L. Bailly. Bailly was not wearing his seatbelt and succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the crash.

The driver of the Ford Super Duty has been identified as 48-year-old St. Amant, Louisiana resident Frank M. Butler. Butler was wearing his seatbelt and not injured.

The driver of the Freightliner Conventional has been identified as 56-year-old Cheyenne, Wyoming resident Scott A. Duncan. Duncan was wearing his seatbelt and not injured.

Driving too fast for road conditions is being investigated on the part of Butler as a contributing factor. The road conditions were slick at the time of the crash.

This is the 11th fatality on Wyoming’s highways in 2019 compared to 3 in 2018, 3 in 2017, and 3 in 2016 to date.
