Daniel Culpepper, 78 year old Buffalo resident passed away quietly Thursday evening at his home in Buffalo surrounded by his family, following a courageous fight with cancer. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 30, at 2:00 p.m. at the St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Buffalo with Pastor Larry Sydow officiating. Following the funeral, interment will be in Willow Grove Cemetery with military graveside services. Donations in Mr. Culpepper’s memory may be made to St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in care of the Harness Funeral Home at 351 N. Adams in Buffalo. Daniel Eugene Culpepper was born on January 17, 1941 in Cheyenne, Wyoming to David and Frieda (Hauck) Culpepper. He grew up and went to school in Cheyenne and graduated from Cheyenne Central High School with the class of 1959. He joined the U.S. Navy in that same year and served seven years and spent most of his time at the U.S. Fleet Weather Central in Kodiak, Alaska as an Aerographer Second Class. He was married in 1960 in Cheyenne, Wyoming to Gretchen Taylor and they made their home in various places while Dan was in the Navy and eventually settled in Casper where Dan worked as a Telephone Engineer. They had two daughters, Crystal Joy and Dawn LeAnn. Most of his life was spent as an outside plant communications engineer and inspector for several different telephone companies. During his work years he traveled much of the United States. He retired from Sprint in 2000 and moved to Brinnon, Washington where he lived for seven years. While in Washington he enjoyed sailing, shrimping, oyster gathering, clamming, cooking at the community center and being the editor of the local Brinnon Newspaper, the Brinnon Crier. In May of 2009 he met Loretta Funk, online. The later part of 2009 he made the decision to move to Buffalo to pursue their relationship. On April 10, 2010 he married Loretta, who was the love of his life. The two of them shared many fun adventures together, traveled and bought a winter retirement home in Yuma, Arizona. He continued calling Buffalo his home until his death.
Dan was active in The Boy Scouts of America as a youth. He was a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church and the American Legion. He was an avid fisherman and loved working on his computer.
He is survived by his wife Loretta of Buffalo; three daughters Crystal Culpepper and Dawn Culpepper and her companion Darryl Cameron all of Cheyenne, and Dawn Krom and her husband Dan of Woodbury, Minnesota; one brother Ralph Culpepper and his companion Alta Lynch of Scappoose, Oregon; one sister Barbara Thompson of Cheyenne, Wyoming; three granddaughters, Kathryn Warren and her husband Joshua, Kayla Nadon and her husband Chris and Taylor Kunau all of Cheyenne; two great grandchildren Joshua Jaxson Warren and Jacobi Grace Warren also of Cheyenne; and numerous nieces and nephews and a great host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother-in-law.
