SHERIDAN, WY— The Sheridan County Conservation District (SCCD) will host a meeting next week to update the public on the work being done at the former Acme Power Plant site. The conservation district acquired the site two years ago and began assessments to determine contamination levels that were present at the site.
Carrie Rogaczewski, District Manager for SCCD, said that the district is taking “baby steps” on the project, and still doesn’t know what the ultimate use for the site will be.
Rogaczewski added that while it may be tempting, SCCD is asking the public to respect fences and boundaries around the site, as environmental assessments that were performed had confirmed that there were hazardous substances at the site. Anyone accessing the site has the potential to track contaminants to surrounding areas and/or injure themselves amid the debris.
Anyone interested in learning more about the Acme Power Plant Reclamation Project is urged to attend the meeting next week, which will be Thursday, January 24th. The meeting will be at the Downtown Sheridan Memorial Hospital Conference Center at 61 South Gould Street.
