This month is Sexual Assault Awareness Month and according to FBI statistics, there has been a 20% increase in the number of reported rapes in the United States, but all too often sexual assaults go unreported.

That increase coincides with a revised definition of rape to include the concept of consent, removing the “forcible” in the terminology.

Empower Wyoming’s Francine Russell believes the reported increase may be due to the revised definition as well as the #meToo movement…

She went on to share some very sobering statistics about how sexual assaults impact women…

 

This year marks the official 18th year of organized efforts to raise awareness and advocate prevention of sexual assault, harassment, and abuse.
