Andrew Lee Sams, 72, of Sheridan, passed away Friday, July 7, 2017 at the Sheridan V.A. Medical Center.  He was born May 25, 1945 in Sheridan, WY to Kleo Sams and Ruth “Pat” (Strange) Sams Bates.

Andrew grew up on the family ranch in Wyarno, WY.  He attended Sheridan schools and after graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Army.  Andrew married his high school love, Mary L. Newcomer, Thanksgiving Day, 1971 in Ashland, MT.  He worked various ranch hand jobs and later, for the City of Sheridan and the railroad, as a conductor.

He enjoyed hunting, gold mining, snow machining, and spending time with his family and friends at their cabin.

Andrew was preceded in death by his parents.  He is survived by his children, Amy (Gary) Bennage, Amandy (Frank) Romero, Earl Sams, and Fred Sams all of Sheridan; grandchildren, Kelli and Kerri Bennage, and Anna and Adam Romero;  and also, survived by his brother, two sisters, and many nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at Champion Funeral Home in Sheridan with Majors Kyle and Martha Trimmer officiating.  Burial will follow in the Sheridan Municipal Cemetery with Military Honors.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army, 150 S. Tschirgi St., Sheridan, WY  82801 or CHAPS, 1590 Sugarland Dr., Ste.
