CASPER, WY— A group of 130 Wyoming Army National Guardsmen is set to fly to Texas ahead of a nine-month deployment to the Middle East.

The Casper Star-Tribune reports the troops, members of the 2nd Battalion of the 300th Field Artillery, will likely travel from Casper to Fort Bliss in Texas on Thursday. Gov. Mark Gordon will attend a send-off ceremony in Casper on Wednesday.

Different parts of the unit will travel to different areas in the Middle East, and some will be involved in artillery support. All will be under the umbrella of the U.S. Central Command, which covers Iraq, Afghanistan, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates.

The unit will return stateside in the winter.
