A bull elk harvested near Meeteetse (Hunt Area 66) has tested positive for Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD). While deer have previously tested positive for CWD in hunt area 66, this is the first confirmed case of an infected elk for hunt area 66.

A map of CWD endemic areas is available on the Wyoming Game and Fish Department website.

Last year Game and Fish Department personnel tested 3,351 CWD samples throughout the state, and continues to evaluate the latest recommendations for managing the disease.
